The House

The house is really all we talk about anymore. It needs this or that....the attic insulation is a priority, no the kitchen island for extra work space in the kitchen is a priority (especially with Thanksgiving coming). The bathroom still isn't done. It is taking forever and costing more then we thought. I just want it to be done. I was very excited to go to Walla Walla on a business trip. I got to take a shower instead of baths in a partly completed bathroom. Don't get me wrong....I love baths and have an extra long bathtub just for the occasion, but it's not the same when it's in a construction zone. We will just be very happy when the bathroom is complete and the contractor is not in the house.

Home Owners

Yeah!!!! Daniel and I closed on our house last week. We have yet to celebrate, as I am still in Seattle with the cat, and he is in Portland with the dog. It has been a very stressful summer and fall, but things are coming together. We have moved all our belongings into the new house, but still have lots of unpacking and organizing to do. We are also still waiting for the bathroom to be finished. We finally got a toilet and sink in the upstairs bathroom, so at least now the guys can stop using the backyard as a urinal. (We were making many trips to the coffee shop down the street while we worked at the house.)

I have been trying to get this blog started all summer to keep people up to date on our plans and whereabouts. But, soon I think it will be up and running. For those of you that didn't know, Daniel and I bought my great grandmother's house in Portland. It had been a dream of mine for several years, so I am very excited that it has come to fruition. Daniel has been in Portland since mid-August teaching, and I have continued to work in Seattle. I have decided to stay with my current employer and take a job working from home in Portland. I am hoping that will be organized soon, so I can go to Portland for good. (I am very tired of driving between Seattle and Portland.)

Many of you have heard our crazy stories about the house. My grandparents had been renting the house out to the same people for 35 years, since my great grandmother had passed away. The renters were pathological pack rats. They smoked in the house for 35 years with all the windows closed. I don't think they had cleaned or thrown anything away in 20+ years. I had never seen anything like it. We removed junk and carpet and linoleum and had a professional cleaning crew, and started redoing the fir floors and this is what we were left with.
